During our last AI Meet-Up, Antoine de Wispelaere and Jochem van Kapel of FIDDS and our resident FIDDS UX showed the value of data-driven decision making and took us along the journey towards creating a data-driven organization. These were our key takeaways:
- The big data analytics market is on track for major growth, expected to jump from $348.21 billion in 2024 to $924.39 billion by 2032.
- Many organizations struggle with adoption. The percentage of employees actively using BI/analytics tools is currently 25% on average, reflecting minimal growth in the past seven years. The main roadblocks include overwhelming dashboards, a lack of translation into actionable insights and uncertainty about using the tools effectively (e.g., “What questions can I ask? What information can I get from this?”).
- To become truly data-driven, you need the basics in place—good policies, solid data management and high-quality data. Senior management buy-in is key to getting organizations beyond pilot phases.
- When implementing data strategies, organizations often try to do too much at once. It’s better to treat it as an expedition—start small, focus on specific parts and build gradually.
- Strategic approaches to adoption include top-down, strategy-led efforts requiring leadership alignment, and bottom-up, product-led initiatives emphasizing user-centric design and experience.
- A product-led approach can boost adoption by focusing on a good user experience—tools that meet user needs, present data clearly in the right format, are easy to try out and share and offer direct value.
On January 16th, we will host a follow-up lunch session, where Jochem and Antoine will share how to realize organization-wide adoption of data solutions. Real-life cases combined with practical UX tips will give you the tools to double the usage of your platform. You are welcome to join us!
