Learnings from our ‘Data & AI Adoption through User Experience’ lunch session

We had a great lunch session last week at the AI Innovation Center event space! This session was all about Data & AI Adoption through User Experience, led by Jochem van Kapel and Antoine de Wispelaere of FIDDS and our resident FIDDS UX.

Their audience contributed with plenty of questions and ideas of their own, making for an enlightening discussion. Here’s what we learned:

📊 A self-managing organization can be achieved with AI tools, but only if your organization produces high-quality data. Robust data policy and data management systems are essential here – the tool itself is only the tip of the iceberg!

🧑‍💻Groundbreaking AI tools are being developed all the time, yet many fail to be adopted by their target users. Turns out, maximizing user adoption is a science in itself.

👇 Here are three ways to ensure user adoption. By taking these into account from the beginning, organizations greatly improve their chances of users adopting and building trust in a tool:

1. Understand the problem space. Ask yourself “What exactly am I designing this solution for, and for whom?” By starting with studying the problem and exactly whose problem it is, you’re building the tool with users’ needs and habits in mind. That’s an ideal start.

2. Build trust. Users simply won’t trust an AI tool immediately. So, bring them into the loop! Instead of a tool that makes opaque suggestions or autonomous decisions, consider creating interfaces showing the evidence and data behind its suggestions. Over time, users learn that suggestions are based on sound reasoning and data. Trust achieved.

3. Maximise usability. You already studied the problem the tool is solving and who it’s solving it for, now make it as usable as possible! Make sure it fits into a user’s daily workflow, is easily navigable, and has an excellent user interface. No confusing, data-logged dashboards! UX design is your friend.

Thank you to everyone who joined, and to our expert speakers for sharing their insights!
